I had a hunch Obama would use the same community organizing approach from his campaign as a new format for getting the people involved in government during his Presidency. It just seems so in line with his assertion that he wants us ALL to contibute to make our country better.

I'm happy Obama won and I'm thrilled about prop 2, but lets also not forget that in California, gays are now second class citizens. Prop 8..remember that?? What about Arkansas banning abortions for most women, and not allowing gays to adopt? Let's not only strive for good health, but equality too.

obama victory was a great achievement that we all can be proud of. Hopefully is health policies will help cancer research specifically. My blog www.dailymesothelioma.com was created for research and news regarding this disease and its relation to asbestos. But now it focuses on all cancer related topics. Hopefully with an Obama administration this research will be heavily funded.

I love your book and your blog--and I don't even have cancer. But everyone in my family has had it, plus I am very much into veganism from an ethical and health perspective. You are an amazing inspiration for so many reasons.

I've lurked on your blog forever but am writing now b/c am about to sign a cookbook contract with Globe Pequot. I know you are crazy busy being a cancer cowgirl ambassador, but if you have 2 secs, is there any way you could drop me a quick line (dyniseb@yahoo.com or theurbanvegan@yahoo.com) and tell me in a sentence about your experience with GP? I had a few offers but actually decided to go with Globe because I loved "Crazy, Sexy" so much.

Kris, my favorite thing you said on this post was "Where is the ceiling of personal potential or is there one?" We should all take this victory personally and apply its limitlessness to our own lives. We can get involved and truly make a difference while we are here for this brief blip on planet earth. I, for one, am more committed than ever to making my voice heard for equality for gays. Prop 8 is a horrific blight on this glorious moment in our nation's history. We have got to stand up for gay rights. I believe it is THE civil rights issue for our generation. We need to support organizations like the Human Rights Campaign and LAMBDA. Two of my best friends--two men--have been together for eighteen years. They live in California. Can you imagine waking up one morning and being told your marriage is no longer recognized. In the midst of our pride and celebrations, let's not forget that we still have a long way to go.

And ... the girls are getting a puppy! Wow, that makes my day. I hope they will be visiting one of the three animal shelters in DC. The Humane Society has offered. I think it's time for Kris to get a new cat as well.

It is wonderful to see the new face and figure which represents new hope and energy. Now there is work for everyone to do in supporting this new energy so we all live by example and take action through our responsibility to each other.

Each time there is a new president everyone looks to them for change, forgetting that a president only reflects the mood of its citizens and it is up to the public to administer change to our own lives though healthier and spiritual practices.

being an american, i had a unique perspective on the election as i watched it all unfold here in sydney, australia. i watched obama's acceptance speech at work, surrounded by a room full of aussies, and they were just as mesmerized as i was. he makes me proud. i just wish i could have been in the states that night for all the celebrations! must have been an incredible time to be in america.

Happy Dance Happy Dance... jiggle and prance.. I cannot believe it.. I feel so relieved. It feels as if the country just had a great colonic.. I cannot believe that we have so much hope and joy alive again. I pray for this young man who has literally the wieght of the world on his young shoulders.. But I know that with joy and hope all that can be accomplished. We have seen it today....... Now I am so thrilled about Prop 2 I cannot tell you the relief all animals on this planet have needed the cage to be bigger......I am ashamed that Prop 8 was voted down and it is shameful that as Americans we cannot extend all rights to all people. But folks soon there will be a victory of faith and human love over fear.....and all people will have all rights... The world is open with possiblities.. and I am soooooooooo thrilled that wolf killing woman was sent straight back to Alaska.. I hope she stays there. I am relived.. Just a copyright note, Kris. The photos you use on your blog (the ones of Obama and his family and so forth) should include a note that you have permission from the photographers/publications to use these photos along with a photo credit. Credit where credit is due. The only photos that are "public domain" are the ones taken by official white house photographers and released accordingly. It's only fair and the legal thing to do, since you're advocating for laws (example: animal rights, etc.).

My little brother, the one I posted about before that we're worried may have Hodgkins (and at least has some weird condition that is inflamming his lymph nodes that isn't Aids, Lyme disease, Mono...) cast his vote for Obama.

In New Hampshire. So did his twin. And my mother, a lifelong Republican, voting for the lives of the un and under-insured and chronically ill.

I'm so proud of him. I'm so proud of us as a country for electing this man.

I am so happy for you Americans. You deserve that change. You've been through so much the past few years and hopefully everything will get better soon.
The thing that bothers me the most –as debbiedoesraw said– is that prop 8 was approved. It's so retrograde and hypocritical. A lot of people I admire are gay and it saddens me and makes me so mad that they're not respecting their rights.
I hope something gets done for this matter.

I feel like it's New Years Day! I'm on the West coast, but still I was expecting a long night of tense tv watching. However, by the time I got home from work last night it was already decided. It took my breath away. Friends and family started calling the minute I got in the door, but I couldn't talk to anyone. I was in shock. After the heartbreak of the past few elections, it feels like such a gift. I am truly hopefully! Congratulations to us all :)

Debbie, I am in Seattle but have been keeping an eye on CA's Prop 8. How painful it must be for all of those people who were able to celebrate their unions to now be told they will not be recognized. I do believe that the major change in the White House is a step towards equality that will open the minds and hearts of many.

Kris, I am simply bursting with hope and joy. Finally, finally this campaign is over and sanity prevailed. It is also very personal for me.
In just the past month, I have heard: "You are in full remission"
and "President-Elect Barack Obama" and even "The Phillies are World Series Champions" (ha,ok, so only earth shattering for Phillies fans)
Could the Universe send me a stronger message that I am ready for a revolution in how I live my own life? I don't think so. I am moving forward with excitement to take better care of myself and in doing so, be able to give back more.
I have been crying and smiling all morning. May hope and progress live on!
