I had scene your documentary awhile ago. But, watching you on Oprah was a mind altering experience. I understand my mother's profound positive attitude toward the disease threatening her life. I get it finally that we can choose to LIVE NOT DIE!
I get it. You helped me grasp the mind body connection. I am now inspired to help save my mother's life who I love so very much. I have a catahola/lab mix(Blaze) and a boxer/pitbull mix(Lucy) and your puppy looks like my two dogs baby! Rescuing dogs is the best medicine ever. My catahoula came from and kill shelter and my pit mix was abandoned in my neighborhood. I've never posted before, but I have your book and am totally inspired by you. I'm 39 and have dealt with breast cancer for 8 years. Stage IV since 2005. I'm doing great. Thanks for everything.

Re: Puppy tooth fairy?

I feed my dog both raw and cooked kibble. We ran out of dog food two days ago, so until the first of the month, he's been getting just raw pate and sweet potatoes and veggie scraps. So cool. She looks adorable.

After researching kibble I gave up on it. I give my pup lots of raw vegetables with alternating raw oils on top (they even have a flx seed oil specifically for pets at Whole Foods) and sometimes a tiny bit of salt. Sometimes fruit, especially stuff she would find in the wild like berries and apples. She loves it all.

But I figure she would eat uncooked meat in nature so I give her raw, cruelty-free meat and also raw bone with the marrow in it -- which she chews on for hours. Seems to work for her teeth; they grow nicely, are sharp and super white.

Very rarely kibble except for "Halo"; it has almost no junk. When I make juice I give her the foam which she loves. (Unless grapefruit is in it; she hates citrus!). When she was smaller I moistened her food with a bit of milk...

So far her coat is supershiny, teeth are strong. Body built good so I figure this might be the right path.

Christiane

Re: Puppy tooth fairy?

After making a green drink in my juicer, I often mix some of the pulp in with my dogs' dry food. They were older when I started this, so they weren't too enthusiastic at first. I find this profoundly disturbing. Dogs are carnivores and their primordial brains are wet wired to consume organ meats and meat products in addition to bone meal, greens ,and fruits. Although we (myself included) choose to live raw vegan lifestyles, you are doing a serious disservice to your animal companion in the long run by doing so.In addition, the bacteria inhabiting their intestinal tract is adapted to breaking down mainly meat products. I have done the research, and olive oil veggie-scrap nut pate' is NOT cutting it. Raw (some are pre mixed) food products specifically for dogs ond/or Organic meats in conjunction with organic fruits and veggies (Which is what I feed my dog) will give your pet the nutrition it needs. I mentioned that I have been doing animal rescue for many years. One of my closest friends (a Vet) who himself is a vegan, feeds his dog organic chicken fruits and veggies and had nothing good to say about veggie only based diets for dogs and cats.
In short, just like everything in life, it's all about balance. You'll do fine... you already are!!

PRG

Kat a.k.a. I worked for a ranch vet for years and we spent a lot of time pulling those bones out of little throats. They can splinter and be mighty dangerous. The chicken however should clear up the skin being dry. Also remember that dogs puppies anyway needs tons of fat... so add there but beware of the poop spots.. and dont add anything to fast or you will be ankle high in not so much fun.. love ya.. and happy times with that beautiful girl.. her eyes are an old souls aren't they.. glorious. I felt like I was the most incompetent puppy parent ever! I had "shattered his teeth in his mouth... My animal expertise had been to that point limited to guinea pigs, parakeets and fish. In addition,Diego had to have his incisors pulled,as they did not fall out on their own and were crowding his permamnent set of teeth. I named her Pippi after Pippi Longstockings because she's SO skinny (she was literally a walking skeleton, but since i've had her, she's gained a bit of weight) skinny.. but mainly because she has reddish freckles on her face. I know lots of people feed their dogs raw veggies but here is my story and I'll try to keep it short. I had a cocker spaniel that some neighbors of my parents gave to me cuz she was too hyper and they were on their way to the pound with her. She lived with me for 11 years. The guy who gave her up was a produce man from a grocery store. He fed her nothing but raw veggies and fruit. That sweet girl would cry her heart out for a strawberry! But, she had the worst tummy trouble that my vet said was from too much raw veggies. So, please check with your sweet pups doc about the raw veggies at least to see what is safe for the long term. Sending puppy dog belly rubs!

Re: Puppy tooth fairy?

Honey buns, Love that site!
