I am so excited for all of your adventures in life. And your attitude is continually inspiring. VEGETARIAN caught my eye.

You see, my husband (Justin) and I leave on September 30th to backpack to various countries around the world for a year or so. We are both vegetarians. That should make eating while in the certain areas of the world more difficult.

As we have been planning for our adventure we have been updating a blog. www.nomadbackpackers.com We would love to have other opinions, ideas, encouragement, advice, helpful tips, and more left as comments.

Thanks,
Natalie

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

Hi Sandra
Love you too and think about you often. I saw that you can't come to the NYC meet-up and I will miss you! Since we live at opposites states of NYC we should make a date to meet in the city one of these days. Thank you for arranging a special deal with them.
So I'm in LA, and I loved reading that you found us not too lame in the raw food service department. We Rawve LA!
You wrote that no one in LA uses public transportation or walks - that may be true on the surface, certainly on the westside, but the little known fact is that over a million and a half people use public transportation in LA every day (ok, a little less on weekends) - I know I do, as do millions of others who don't own a car. An invisible majority? Quite possibly..

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

Hey Kris,
Wanted to thank you for your help on my journey to healing. Our local paper did an article on breast cancer profiling me -- and it mentioned my veganism (although left out wheatgrass/juicing) and my running (shake your a-- --although left out my running stadium steps) and me going back to graduate school (although left out taking neurobiology while on chemo and now organic chemistry.) But, the reporter did a good job of capturing my "Go for it" attitude, so I wanted to take a minute and thank you for your books, your site, and your message. My favorite part of the interview is when I say "Now, when I wake up in the middle of the night, I don't worry about cancer,' SHE LAUGHS, "I think, oh my gosh, I have so much to learn."
Thank you for being one of the the wonderful blessings that have given me courage to live -- really live.
http://www.orlandosentinel....
With a grateful heart,
Sheila

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

Type your comment here.
Kris,
When I heard you were coming to California I thoutht I might see you at the raw food expo in Fort Bragg.(hosted by Living Light Culinary Institute) It is a great event you might want to check out next year.
I'm going to suggest they invite you as a speaker.
Thanks for your inspiration!!
Linda

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

Kris, Thanks for the tips on the cookbooks. It has been a wonderful summer me and for my family. My 2 year canServary came and went and was honored with tremendous love from my joyous family. My husband and I also proudly participated in the Pan Mass Challenge, a 2-day/180 mile bike ride for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Not only did we have a wonderful time, but it was so humbling to be part of something so much bigger than just a bike ride. I took you all with me, so in true spirit this Crazy Sexy family was part of it too. We helped raised a lot of money that will go directly to cancer research and treatment at the Dana Farber. This year the event is expected to raise $34 million, yup, that is right $34 million directly for cancer research and treatment. It was amazing, inspiring and life changing. It was the first of many for me....anyone interested in riding in the future? Anyone already riding? My husband wrote a beautiful letter posted on my PMC page, check it out. http://www.pmc.org/mypmc/pr...

My family and kids also had a summer of milestones and fun, but I am most proud that my kids have named the green smoothie "Shrek;s Drink" and now drink them. I make the standard Key Lime Smoothie and love drinking them with my kids. Yup, my 3 year old asks for them and giggles as he sips it down with a straw. My 6 year old pretends not to like them, but when he finishes it without an argument he isn't really fooling anyone. My dad detoxed this summer and has converted his lifestyle and now has his blood pressure well under control. My sister and nephew are drinking smoothies, well my sister is and has gone veg-head. My baby nephew's smoothies are his baby food but is on the wagon without even knowing it! I noticed throughout the summer my husband has fully converted. He has always supported me and helped me stay true to my diet and lifestyle, but he really ran home this summer with his food choices. You know you have people hooked when the ENTIRE family comes to visit and we have green smoothies all around for breakfast and for an afternoon snack before a colorful vegetarian dinner, I love it! I love the health and vitality of my family. Thanks for the continued inspiration to maintain the peace, love and green veggies! So glad to be back!

PS: Kris, I am working on childcare for the weekend of Kripalu. My husband will be traveling but I intend to make it to this one! What could be better, Kripalu and CS-bootcamp in one weekend....will keep you posted and once I have it worked out I will register.

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

I just wrote a post before the one above but it didn't get posted.....wow, I have been away from my computer for a while and certainly missed a lot! I am turning 25 this October. You are an inspiration to me. I don't have cancer, but I live in fear of getting it every single day. I have depression, anxiety, and chronic hives that I wish to use as my gurus for changing my life and truly healing. I saw you on Oprah, and I watch the trailer of your film almost every day. I have had a deep fear of death for almost my entire life that keeps me stuck in fear. When I see your tailer and how vibrant and wonderful you are as well as downright frightened, I find comfort. I hope that the depression, anxiety, fear of death and hives can one day become my guru as you have embraced your own destiny. Keep on keeping on. Have you read Louise Hay's book "You can Heal your Life"? Is very good for positive affirmation-Louise herself had cancer and healed herself completely-she is now in her eighties!! Take care of yourself, as I know you are already doing.

Love, hugs and veggie salads,
Amy

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

Kris,
I've been wanting to contact you with so many questions, especially about the hippocrates "no sugar" for cancer patients, meaning no fruit! I read your book after being diagnosed and not too far along i decided to go to Florida. I just returned from the 3 week program at hippocrates with all the tools i need for a mostly raw lifestyle. BUT i see you eating the beautiful desserts im assuming are made with carob and dates and agave or the like. Do you have any suggestions to find recipes for dessert that has only stevia has a sweetener? Im inventing right now, but could use a little direction!

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

Sandra darling.. i will be coming before you know it;... we need some time but we have to get debbie to nyc cause i have to get everyone at once.. i will never get another break.. hahah.. it feels that way.. how is the book love bug... thanks for the room if the storm builds you may get a guest way sooner than you thought.. love you all callie

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

If I were to caption this photo of Brian with the girls, it would be: "Brunettes line up to my right...blondes to the left!"
Peace.
Tamara

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

I have only been to your blog a couple times but I had a question I was hoping you could help me with. My sister ended her radiation and chemo in feb. her radiation was in her neck and she was unable to swallow for months. She is in physical therapy now to help with that but is still on her feeding tube :( She is a young beautiful mommy of three and really wants to get rid of her tube. She needs to be consuming 1800-2000 calories a day before they will remove it, but still has a hard time swallowing a whole lot, and her weight is wavering around 100lbs Do you have an ideas for protien and calorie dense smoothies?

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

Dale Susan- Now I'm the one throwing you off...oops! I am a blogger who has been writing about books for two years now. I'm also a 35 year old Mom of two who is awaiting a biopsy to determine if I have breast cancer. I've been proactive with regards to having yearly mammograms since breast cancer runs in my family. Once my biopsy results are in I plan on writing about my experiences, regardless if it is cancer or not, on my blog, but since I haven't mentioned it yet I didn't want to link publicly on my blog here. Anyway, I just finished reading your first book Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips and am really impressed! I plan on writing a review about your lovely book on my blog, probably posting it around the end of September. Would please e-mail me at wordblog(at)verizon(dot)net so I could ask you a question regarding your book and promoting it on my blog? Thanks.
Stephanie

Re: LA chow and fabulous friends

Kris and Brian, it was a great pleasure to meet you, hang out and dine at Cru (thanks to and thank you for inviting me). I haven't heard of Real Food Daily, now I have to check it out. Yeah, just like the song says (Missing Persons) nobody walks in L.A. This is darn near truth. Does it count that we have to walk to get to our cars?

Glad you are safely back at your nest and I hope we will have a chance to meet again soon.

All the best to you both!
