Just curious, why D3 and not D2? Doesn't vitamin D3 come from an animal source?

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

When I cleanse, I use smoothies, juices and broths throughout the day.

Here are 2 of my favorite broths to use during a cleanse (if possible, use organic ingredients):

Bieler Broth:

4 medium zucchini
1/2 lb. of green beans
4 stalks of celery
Steam above until soft.

Blend above veggies with a BIG handful of parsley in blender until smooth. Add steamed spinach for more flavor (do it in shifts if all the veggies won't fit in the blender). The broth tastes best served hot with a bit of Bragg's ginger dressing drizzled over.

Alkaline Broth:

Use a big pot (not aluminum) and fill with 3 quarts of water.

Gather up and clean well the following veggies (don't peel them though):
2 potatoes
4 carrots
4 celery stalks with leaves
2 leeks
2 onions
5 cloves garlic (optional)
2 beets
1 head of swiss chard (or other deep green)

Chop up all the veggies so that they are very small. Add any spices that you like (basil, oregano, cumin, cayenne, etc.). Add veggies to water in the pot.

Cover pot and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a slow boil for 1/2 hour. After 1/2 hour of slow boil, turn heat off and let stand for 1/2 hour. Strain broth through a colander and discard/compost veggies (the nutrients are now in the broth).

Serve broth warm and add any spices you might like.

If you have any questions or I wasn't clear in my recipes, send me an email and I can clarify :) aimee@wellnessgossip.com

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Thanks, I'll give it whirl!

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Can't wait - looking forward to cleaning out the pipes!

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

WOW! I'll have to try the Berry Greens - is it sweeter because of the "berry" in it?

Thanks!
Beth
PS - your pic is stunning!

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Karen,

I had the same question, thanks for your bravery! To get even grosser, it's like sludge, is that ok? Do we need colonics or enema's to remove this stuff? :)

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Hi Beth,
Actually, it's not really sweeter, it has a nice mellow vegetable/savory flavor that I quite like. The ingredients are great - just easily recognizable vegetables and some fruits. I'm a big fan and recommend it.

Cheers,
Kristen

PS thanks for the kind comment on my pic :)

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

This is gross but....is a side effect of detoxing feeling like you always have to poop but only a little comes out at a time??? I'm usually very regular, so I'm wondering if some impacted stuff is working it's way out....sorry to gross out the group!

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Hi Kris!
I have a question about your supplements - do you take them all at one time (e.g., in the morning)? do you take them with food, juice, on their own, etc.? I am having such a hard time taking mine lately. I hate swallowing pills and will put it off for an hour then forget or get lazy, etc.
Thanks!
Jennifer
P.S. - Ordered your juicing tee and had it sent to India. It arrived! Will be taking a photo of myself wearing it at the Gateway of India this weekend...

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Hi Stephanie,
I have been a 'starving student' for years and last year I found a juicer at a remote Target that was on sale for $12.99! I wish I would have known, because I could have sent it to you. If you check Craig's List periodically you might find a cheap one, or else ebay, or maybe put a request in the Life Lounge? I a sure that members have old juicers that they would not mind donating? Maybe also send an email out to friends and family or requst one for your birthday or something?

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Hi Melissa,
You usually need a special juicer to juice wheatgrass. A Green Star does both regular greens, fruit AND wheat grass. It thoroughly juices all greens. You can try to get more juice from your greens if you don't have a Green Star, for example, by rolling the greens up into a ball if possible and trying to put it through a little slower than pushing it down really fast. Hope that makes sense. ;)

But, if you have a Breville or something like that, you need to have a separate juicer for wheatgrass.

Cheers,
Kristen

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Hi Beth,
I'm a big fan of Vitamineral Green :) Good stuff! I also like New Chapter Organic's Berry Greens (it's a little less intense than VG) .

Cheers,
Kristen

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Awesome! That documentary inspired me to the Nth degree! Here's the scoop - I come from a family that is diseased and overweight. I am 24 (25 soon... ick) about 130 pds, the mother of a 5 year old daughter, a dance teacher, a full time college student, have a fiance, and work part time. I am feeling old and achy. I have been trying to eat healthier and watch what goes in my pie hole, but nothing is seeming to help. My skin is gross, and I need a change. Do you have a suggestion for a starting point for a healthier diet that won't freak out my family? Maybe some supplements I should start with, or a food that will help? I've done ACAI juice and I like it... LOL. That's very new for me. =) Also, what resources do you recommend for continuing to grow in my efforts to stay healthy?
Thank you!
P.S. Love the blog...
Kelly

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Scope went FANTASTIC!! Thanks for sending all the good vibes and prayers my way! The prep was aweful and I'll never do it that way again, but the scope itself was a piece of cake. Results to be confirmed in a few days when biopsy comes back, first diagnosis is Ulcerative Colitis (as suspected) but NO crohn's and even better NO polyps to biopsy =) Colitis was my best case dx....I'm happy!

Re: Goddess Group Fasting Day!

Well, Miss Becky B, I do Declare!!!
