Well I'm not a goddess but I'm joining you on Wednesdays. The run down of supplements and menu items are most helpful. thanks..Here's a big green juice to our countries and our own health and future. Peace
  • debbiedoesraw · 11 months ago
You can just be an honorary goddess. :)
  • Corinne · 11 months ago
I just finished my first juice of the day! I'll be juicing for the rest of day and then having something yummy for dinner.
  • Leah · 11 months ago
When you say 'daily supplements'.... do you take these everyday or just on fast day? Is there a good resource you have found for recipes and mixes for smoothies and green drinks?
  • kris Carr · 11 months ago
Those are my foundationals - I take them everyday. Check out http://www.kristensraw.com/
  • ShakenFruit · 11 months ago
Hi! Sorry to ask a question most know the answer to, but, when you say 20 oz of cuke, celery, etc...are you putting all that stuff in a juicer? Or are you cutting them up? Thanks!
  • Regman · 11 months ago
I understand it as she is juicing those ingredients resulting in 20 ounces of juice.
  • kris Carr · 11 months ago
    In the juicer love.
  • debbiedoesraw · 11 months ago

International goddess speaking up :-)! I made my very first green juice today, based on your recipe and it tasted good! As I am a bit of a newbie I am alternating juice with home-made veggie soups. It's wonderful to be part of this health community!
As a side-note: I started as a volunteer today for a foundation that promotes 'Healing / restorative Yoga' for cancer patients. It's early days for the foundation but we're hoping to develop a teachers training course for yoga teachers who specifically want to teach cancer patients this year. Thanks! Amber

Hi - just a quick question. I've noticed that most of your juices contain the same vegetables. What do you think about carrot juice? or apple? There may be an obvious answer but i am new to your website and was just wondering!
    Have a great day!
  • kris Carr · 11 months ago
    Hi Indymom

The best thing to do is to mix your veggies up- choose from a variety. I'm somewhat limited with what I can get in Woodstock. I do add 1 carrot from time to time or a half an apple. I try and limit the amount of fruit. For some reason I'm on a pear kick right now, that's why you're seeing A LOT of it. :)

Parsley is great, cilantro, dandelion greens (wonderful for the liver), red lettuce, SPROUTS (especially sunflower & pea greens), chard too (don't love but use when I have it.

Thank you for the healthy liquid reminder, it's so easy to get caught up in daily routines. I think I will start the wednesday juice thing to!! One day a week for the body to get a break from digesting.... so simple and intelligent!

May you have a great day and even better week!

    Peace, juices, & love!! :)

    Hey gorgeous goddess!

I'm wishin' that I could do these fasts with the group! Unfortunately, I am a very poor college student that cannot afford a juicer or any such equipment. ($34,000+ a year for tuition?! I better be getting a damn good education...I am:) )

Good luck on your fasts, and I always love hearing what you're up to!

  • Beckyb · 11 months ago
Scope went FANTASTIC!! Thanks for sending all the good vibes and prayers my way! The prep was aweful and I'll never do it that way again, but the scope itself was a piece of cake. Results to be confirmed in a few days when biopsy comes back, first diagnosis is Ulcerative Colitis (as suspected) but NO crohn's and even better NO polyps to biopsy =) Colitis was my best case dx....I'm happy!
  • debbiedoesraw · 11 months ago
Well, Miss Becky B, I do Declare!!! I raise my mason jar of green juice to you in a toast!!!
    to Healthy colons forever, amen.

    dear fasting goddesses,
so i have been juicing like a maniac!
juicing for me, for my mum & dad and any one else that stops by for a chat.

    a couple of questions:
    - when i juice things like kale or spinach - they seem to just go through to the bin, not much juice at all comes out. is there are special technique to get the maximum juice???

    - can you put wheatgrass through the juicer???

    x
    melissa
  • KristensRaw · 11 months ago
    Hi Melissa,
You usually need a special juicer to juice wheatgrass. A Green Star does both regular greens, fruit AND wheat grass. It thoroughly juices all greens. You can try to get more juice from your greens if you don't have a Green Star, for example, by rolling the greens up into a ball if possible and trying to put it through a little slower than pushing it down really fast. Hope that makes sense. ;)

But, if you have a Breville or something like that, you need to have a separate juicer for wheatgrass.

    Cheers,
    Kristen
  • Linda · 11 months ago
    Hi Kris-
I noticed that you haven't mentioned wheat grass lately. During your fast do you drink it? Or what about on other days? I usually drink 2 to 3 ounces of wheat grass a day, is that too much?
Should I drink wheat grass during a fast? And continue drinking it everyday?
    Is that something you do?
Good Luck with your colonic tomorrow :)
  • kris Carr · 11 months ago
WG is wonderful, in the past I would drink bet 2-6 oz per day - 2oz at a time. It is extremely powerful. I haven't been drinking it lately because we stopped growing it due to lots of travel etc. But you are my reminder to swill it back once again! My juice bar in town has it so I don't really have an excuse! xo
  • Beth · 11 months ago
    Kris,

Have you ever tried VitaMineral Greens?
  • kris Carr · 11 months ago
Hmmm, not sure. Perhaps. I like green vibrance. They just came out with a new raw formula.
  • Beth · 11 months ago
It's made by HealthForce Nutrtionals - its got barley grass, wheat grass, alfalfa, oat grass, burdock root, kale, spinach, parsley, ginger root, chlorella, kelp, dulse, enzymes, probiotics. You should try it in a smoothie, it rocks! You can get it at www.HealthForce.com. Give it a try Girl! I'll check out Green Vibrance when I'm outa my green stuff.

p.s. How's Lola feeling? Still got the runs?
  • KristensRaw · 11 months ago
    Hi Beth,
I'm a big fan of Vitamineral Green :) Good stuff! I also like New Chapter Organic's Berry Greens (it's a little less intense than VG) .

    Cheers,
    Kristen
  • Beth · 11 months ago
    Kristen,

I love VG too - sometimes I go overboard with it and it is pretty intense - so is the "detoxing" from it! I'll have to try the Berry Greens - is it sweeter because of the "berry" in it?

    Thanks!
    Beth
PS - your pic is stunning!
  • KristensRaw · 11 months ago
    Hi Beth,
Actually, it's not really sweeter, it has a nice mellow vegetable/savory flavor that I quite like. The ingredients are great - just easily recognizable vegetables and some fruits. I'm a big fan and recommend it.

    Cheers,
    Kristen

PS thanks for the kind comment on my pic :)
  • Beth · 11 months ago
    Thanks, I'll give it whirl!

    Kris,
I have been following your blog since watching CrazySexyCancer. That documentary inspired me to the Nth degree! Here's the scoop - I come from a family that is diseased and overweight. I am 24 (25 soon... ick) about 130 pds, the mother of a 5 year old daughter, a dance teacher, a full time college student, have a fiance, and work part time. I am feeling old and achy. I have been trying to eat healthier and watch what goes in my pie hole, but nothing is seeming to help. My skin is gross, and I need a change. Do you have a suggestion for a starting point for a healthier diet that won't freak out my family? Maybe some supplements I should start with, or a food that will help? I've done ACAI juice and I like it... LOL. That's very new for me. =) Also, what resources do you recommend for continuing to grow in my efforts to stay healthy?
    Thank you!
    P.S. Love the blog...
    Kelly

    Awesome! You rock, Kris.

I love the concept of starting anew, taking care of yourself, and being inspired by the new direction for our country. WhooHoo!!!

    Hi Stephanie,
I have been a 'starving student' for years and last year I found a juicer at a remote Target that was on sale for $12.99! I wish I would have known, because I could have sent it to you. If you check Craig's List periodically you might find a cheap one, or else ebay, or maybe put a request in the Life Lounge? I a sure that members have old juicers that they would not mind donating? Maybe also send an email out to friends and family or requst one for your birthday or something?
  • JMS Robertson · 11 months ago
    Hi Kris!
I have a question about your supplements - do you take them all at one time (e.g., in the morning)? do you take them with food, juice, on their own, etc.? I am having such a hard time taking mine lately. I hate swallowing pills and will put it off for an hour then forget or get lazy, etc.
    Thanks!
    Jennifer
P.S. - Ordered your juicing tee and had it sent to India. It arrived! Will be taking a photo of myself wearing it at the Gateway of India this weekend...
  • Kris Carr · 11 months ago
WOW! I can't wait to see that pix of you! PLS SEND AND I WILL POST IT!!!
I take my supps morning and eve. Enzymes with each meal.
  • karen · 11 months ago
This is gross but....is a side effect of detoxing feeling like you always have to poop but only a little comes out at a time??? I'm usually very regular, so I'm wondering if some impacted stuff is working it's way out....sorry to gross out the group!
  • Beth · 11 months ago
    Karen,

I had the same question, thanks for your bravery! To get even grosser, it's like sludge, is that ok? Do we need colonics or enema's to remove this stuff? :)
  • Kris Carr · 11 months ago
Lucky for you both I have a colon hydrotherapist guest blogging in a few weeks!
  • Beth · 11 months ago
Can't wait - looking forward to cleaning out the pipes!

When I cleanse, I use smoothies, juices and broths throughout the day.

Here are 2 of my favorite broths to use during a cleanse (if possible, use organic ingredients):

    Bieler Broth:

    4 medium zucchini
    1/2 lb. of green beans
    4 stalks of celery
    Steam above until soft.

Blend above veggies with a BIG handful of parsley in blender until smooth. Add steamed spinach for more flavor (do it in shifts if all the veggies won't fit in the blender). The broth tastes best served hot with a bit of Bragg's ginger dressing drizzled over.

    Alkaline Broth:

Use a big pot (not aluminum) and fill with 3 quarts of water.

Gather up and clean well the following veggies (don't peel them though):
    2 potatoes
    4 carrots
    4 celery stalks with leaves
    2 leeks
    2 onions
    5 cloves garlic (optional)
    2 beets
1 head of swiss chard (or other deep green)

Chop up all the veggies so that they are very small. Add any spices that you like (basil, oregano, cumin, cayenne, etc.). Add veggies to water in the pot.

Cover pot and bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a slow boil for 1/2 hour. After 1/2 hour of slow boil, turn heat off and let stand for 1/2 hour. Strain broth through a colander and discard/compost veggies (the nutrients are now in the broth).

Serve broth warm and add any spices you might like.

If you have any questions or I wasn't clear in my recipes, send me an email and I can clarify :) aimee@wellnessgossip.com

Hey there, Loved the documentary and I've been a follower of your blog for a while now. Just curious, why D3 and not D2? Doesn't vitamin D3 come from an animal source?
  • Brad Perala · 11 months ago
I just watched your doc...you know, Crazy Sexy Cancer...well I liked it a lot. I am a 25 year old Vegetarian who kinda wants to go vegan...anyhow that's all. I liked it, and I'm very happy for you!

  • rainbpw · 11 months ago
Kris - you are my sunlight!
I'm gonna join you and the goddess group next Wednesday!
Thanks for posting the supplements list and your menu for the day. It's so helpful!
As always, you are one of a kind!
  • shellley · 11 months ago
I'm wondering about "D" too ! ..it seems like all milks ie. soy and rice etc. are supplemented with D2.But I've read somewhere that its D3 that we should take? any info is appreciated - now that we're finding how important D is. By the way i love this blog even tho i've never commented - very uplifting - i come to you via doing research last year for a friend that had cancer -being a life long vegetarian and since getting into alkaline diet w/Dr.Robert Young i've become vegan and just found out that i've got a wheat allergy or something - when i stopped eating grains my lifelong asthma has disapeared! wow! cant believe it still that i've been poisening myself for my whole life! I'll be joining you on your wednesday fasts! love the strength and energy of this group!
